Ray's Spelling and Word Games is a fun, easy to use Windows program to help children with spelling, reading, vocabulary and logic. Includes a spelling section and two word games (see below).

Ray's Spelling and Word Games is not free: if it helps your child and you want to use it beyond a 30 day trial period, then you must register it - and get all the extras that come free!

Installation
Run 'setup'(in the case of the single self extracting file, run 'rspl3210') and follow simple on-screen instructions.
Note: all program files (including vb40032.dll) are installed into the program folder/directory. This avoids conflicts during uninstallation and makes installation over a network more straightforward. If you are sure that vb40032.dll is already on your system, you can safely delete it from the program folder/directory.

System Requirements
Any computer running Windows 95, 98 or above. A soundcard is required. A microphone is needed to record weekly spellings (but not for the word games).

Running the Program
From the start menu, select programs and then the Ray's Spelling and Word Games folder. From here, the program can be run directly.

Sound
A soundcard and microphone are required if you want your child's spellings spoken out aloud.

SPELLING
The 'Spelling' option allows you to input your child's weekly spellings (or any others), record the words from within the program, and choose from learning, practice and test options on those words. Use the learning section when your child first meets new words, practice when your child has some familiarity with the words and a real test when your child has learnt the words.

FIND THE WORD
'Find the Word' is a Hangman like game but without the hangman! This traditional game is made more educational by including the meaning of the words as hints, and including a time element. Comes with a large database of words and meanings (only fully available with registration) or make your own word lists.

WORD JUMBLE
'Word Jumble' is an exciting anagram game (with hints), which works like a simple arcade game! The object is to score as many points as possible. To avoid random guessing, the player is only allowed 3 guesses per word, irrespective of the time used. When 30% of the time has elapsed a hint is given, and when 60% has elapsed an extra letter is added (if required). This is harder than 'Find the Word' and so children might find themselves playing this game at a lower level of difficulty. Comes with a large database of words and meanings (only fully available with registration) or make your own word lists.

Uninstall
Click on the uninstall icon in the programs menu.

Uninstall Password
The uninstall can be password protected to prevent accidental erasure by children. You will be promted to enter a password when you first run the program. It can also be entered via the sound quality/spelling preference option menu.
If you forget the password or want to enter a new one, you must first delete the file 'spelopt' or 'spelopt.dat' in the program folder/directory.
